Houston Shelters Need Your Help!

Are you looking for a quiet, laid-back cat or a “ready-to-play” dog? A snuggly little kitten or a jogging buddy? Do you need a fuzzy buddy to keep you company while working at home? The animals at the Houston animal shelter need your help, The shelters have so many pets and need homes for them, according to the Houston Chronicle.

The Harris County Pets Animal Shelter is currently experiencing record-high intakes and is in need of adopters and fosters to help get animals out of the inundated shelter and into loving homes.

As of June 15, the shelter has over 500 animals in its care, according to representatives. The shelter is waiving adoption fees for all available cats and dogs through Sunday, June 20. All pets are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and come with a Harris County pet license that lasts one year.

Among those looking for a home are kittens Teacup (A574261) and Spork (A574262). These 7-week-old black domestic shorthair cats were found on the side of a busy Houston road by an animal control officer. 

German shepherd mix

Sachary (A573387) is a 6-monthr-old, male, German Shepherd mix available for adoption from Harris County Pets. Sachary was surrendered by his owner after only two weeks, as the owner decided they did not have time for a dog. Sachary is a sweet pup who could use some TLC and attention. Also waiting at the shelter is Sachary, a 6-month-old, male, German Shepherd mix who was surrendered by his owner after they decided they did not have time for a dog. Shelter staff said Sachary is a sweet guy who could use some attention. He loves men and women but doesn’t get along so well with other dogs. His animal ID is A573387. 

Alaskan husky mix

Alaska (A575227) is a 1-year-old, female, Alaskan Husky mix available for adoption from Harris County Pets. Alaska was brought in as a stray and was found running loose with another dog. She is stunningly beautiful and is only 42 pounds. Karen Warren/Staff photographer

Alaska is a beautiful 1-year-old, female, Alaskan Husky mix who was found running loose with another dog. She is one of many strays hoping a new owner will come and find them. Her animal ID is A575227. 

Black white labrador

Samson (A575066) is a 2-year-old, male, black/white Labrador mix available for adoption from Harris County Pets. Samson was brought into the shelter as an owner surrender. The owner reports that he is great with women, small dogs, cats and children. He does not get along with bog dogs and can be reactive to some men. Karen Warren/Staff photographer

Adoption appointments must be made online or by calling 281-999-3191. The shelter is located at 612 Canino Road. Adoption hours are 12-5:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday-Sunday. The shelter is also looking for fosters, volunteers, and donations of pet food or newspapers.
