Will and Grace is not just a T.V. Show…they’re next door neighbors in The Woodlands who both live with type 1 diabetes (T1D). Grace was just 3 years old when she was diagnosed, and Will was diagnosed two years ago, when he was 10 years old. Alan O’Neill, a Type 2 diabetic himself, became familiar with Grace’s story because the O’Neill family are good friends with Graces’ parents.
Alan O’Neill shares the story about how he became aware of, and involved with Team Will & Grace and the JDRF One Walk. Alan said, “Our dear friends Nancy and Travis Stricker’s daughter, Grace, was diagnosed with T1D when she was only three years old. And her next door neighbor, Will, found out he had T1D when he was only ten years old. Finding a cure for Diabetes is a cause that is near and dear to my heart. As a Type 2 diabetic myself I know first-hand the struggles of living with this disease, and can only imagine how challenging it must be for young children like these to have to grow up with it.”
“So on Saturday,” Alan continued, “I took part again in the JDRF annual One Walk event which started at the United Methodist Church in The Woodlands. My wife Linda, daughter Emma, and son-in-law Connor joined me, along with several others who joined ‘Team Will & Grace’ but there were dozens of other teams as well. My guess is several hundred joined in to walk. And our team, ‘Will & Grace’ successfully raised over $8,000 and counting, which more than doubled their goal of $3,000 dollars. We couldn’t be more pleased with the turnout and support, and would encourage everyone to donate and join in next year. It’s a very worthy cause.”
